We are looking for players that are a good fit with the two elements of the Gamers mission statement: 1. Competing at the highest level nationally 2. Using baseball as platform to teach important life lessons These two elements of our mission set a pretty high standard for players. To fully benefit from our program, a player needs two things -- baseball talent/skills to compete at a high level AND the mental make-up to fit with the Gamers culture and life lesson program. Specifically, we are looking for the following attributes in Gamers players: 1. Baseball talent/skills - Athleticism - Five tools - running, throwing, fielding, hitting (power, control), pitching 2. Gamer Qualities - Ability and willingness to apply baseball instruction - Passion, energy and enthusiasm for baseball - Competitiveness - Mental toughness - Work ethic - Leadership, team skills Players that that have these attributes will flourish in the Gamers program. |

Parents play an important role in the Gamer culture. As a program, we have spent a lot of time talking about the expectations of parents. These expectations are embodied in the Positive Coaching Alliance Parent Pledge which every parent in the Gamers program is required to read and sign. We take this very seriously. While we recognize that people sometimes make mistakes, we will not tolerate recurring failure to meet these expectations. The mission, values and culture of the Gamers program are too important. The Gamers first winter practice season was completed on Saturday, Feb. 23rd. Gamers players had over 80 hours of baseball instruction, reps and performance training with Hammerbodies and during weeknight rep sessions. Overall, we are very pleased with the level of effort and skill development that has occurred in just 13 weeks of work. Gamers coaches and players deserve to be proud of their work. |

Matt Whiteside has developed an offseason long-toss throwing program for all pitchers and position players. It is a realistic goal to add 5+ mph to velocity – but it takes a good program and lots of disciplined hard work. Please visit the Clubhouse for a detailed description of the program, along with the 15u/16u weightlifting program and the Throwers 10 program. |

The Gamers program emphasizes academic performance as a HIGHER PRIORITY than baseball. The reality is that only a small percentage of high school players advance to college baseball. And, only a small number of college players advance to professional baseball. Good academic performance leads to the next level of academics - college, which then leads to longer term career opportunities. Even after your playing days are over, your academic record will still be there, helping you succeed in the next phase of life.
|
|
Academics are a high priority in the Gamers program for three reasons: 1. Life lessons that are taught in the Gamers baseball program translate directly to the classroom (and vice versa) |

November Weightlifing Check-up |

To compete at the highest level nationally, Gamers need to become bigger, faster and stronger. If high school age Gamers are not playing a Fall or Winter sport, they are expected to participate in a Strength & Speed program. There are three options for doing this - either on their own, as part of high school programs, or at professional trainers like Hammerbodies and Velocity. The Gamers off-season, pre-season training program is detailed in the Clubhouse. On November 17th, we did 3 month check up on the progress of 15u and 16u Gamers. We measured strength along three dimensions - leg press (quads), lat pull down (upper back) and bench press (chest, arms, pec's). The results were VERY impressive. For the 16u Gamers that are lifting weights, we measured an average 50% improvement in overall muscle strength. |

We have decided to supplement the Hammerbodies training with a 30 minute conditioning program that will added to the weekly rep sessions for each team. This program will include core strength, speed, agility and plyometric drills and will be done in the Performance Room and All-Star. |
